Russia claims UK took advantage of Ukraine ‘to the last man’

(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has accused the UK of exploiting Ukraine for its own resource-driven goals, claiming British foreign policy is centered around resource acquisition at any cost. Zakharova criticized what she described as British egoism, which she believes has become ingrained in the nation’s ideology, in a Monday interview. Her comments came after Ukrainian troops were invited to participate in the Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) parade in London, with Zakharova suggesting the invitation indicated Ukraine’s willingness to fight for British interests "to the last Ukrainian."

Zakharova also accused the UK of a historical pattern of resource exploitation, citing British colonialism and military interventions against Russia, such as its alliances with the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century and its actions during the Russian Civil War. She further referenced British support for Ukraine, including its alleged role in Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory, particularly the 2021 Black Sea incident where the British Navy ship HMS Defender entered Russian waters off Crimea.

According to Zakharova, Britain’s continued provocations and support for Ukraine reflect a centuries-old tactic of pursuing its interests at Russia’s expense. She argued that while Britain looks for ways to undermine Russia using new technologies and provocations, Russia continues to progress, rendering British strategies ineffective.

Zakharova also criticized the UK for supporting the Ukrainian government's efforts to erase Soviet-era ties and celebrate Ukrainian nationalists who collaborated with the Nazis. She compared the VE Day parade to fascist demonstrations, drawing parallels to historical British fascist marches. Zakharova suggested that, unlike in the 1936 Battle of Cable Street, the British public is now largely complacent due to government influence and indoctrination.
