Putin sends invitation to Arab presidents for Moscow summit
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended an official invitation to the leaders of Arab League member states and the League's Secretary-General to attend the inaugural Russia-Arab summit, set to take place in Moscow on October 15. The Kremlin issued the invitation on Saturday, as Arab leaders convened in Baghdad to address the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
In his message, Putin emphasized Russia’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with the Arab League and fostering constructive dialogue with its members. He noted that the upcoming summit will be held amid a challenging global environment, pointing specifically to the intensifying Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the rising number of civilian casualties.
Putin praised the Arab League as an effective platform for regional cooperation and for responding to the complex challenges facing the Middle East and North Africa.
At the 34th Arab League Summit held the same day, member states jointly condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, demanded an immediate ceasefire, and pledged financial aid for the region’s reconstruction.
The Kremlin reaffirmed Russia’s backing of Arab-led diplomatic efforts to resolve regional disputes and underscored the importance of upholding international law, as well as the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.
Russia has significantly deepened its ties with Arab countries in recent years. In December 2023, Putin visited the UAE and Saudi Arabia, where he was warmly received by President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The two leaders highlighted their expanding cooperation, particularly in the fields of energy and advanced technology. Putin described relations with the UAE as “unprecedentedly high,” calling the country Russia’s top trading partner in the Arab world.
