Russian mayor reports infant among those wounded in Ukrainian attack

(MENAFN) A Ukrainian artillery strike on the city of Gorlovka in the Donetsk People's Republic has resulted in at least sixteen injuries, including that of a one-year-old child, according to the city's mayor, Ivan Prikhodko. The attack, which targeted the city center on Tuesday, caused widespread damage, with explosions destroying doors and windows of buildings, including apartment blocks. A bus was also hit in the strike. Prikhodko posted a video and photos on his Telegram channel showing streets covered in debris. At least one person remains in critical condition, though further details about the victims were not provided.

Gorlovka, located about 50 kilometers north of Donetsk, was home to around 250,000 people before the conflict began and has been frequently targeted by Ukrainian forces. This is not the first attack on the city; in early April, a Ukrainian kamikaze drone hit a bus, injuring sixteen civilians, and a similar attack occurred in mid-March. Rodion Miroshnik, Russia’s ambassador-at-large for war crimes investigations, has previously noted an increase in civilian casualties in vulnerable areas like Gorlovka, suggesting that Ukrainian actions are hindering peace negotiations between Moscow and Kiev.
