Warsaw goes against US on probable Ukraine troops deployment
Poland’s Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz clarified on Tuesday that Poland would not send its military personnel into Ukraine. Instead, the country’s role will be limited to functioning as a logistical support hub. He emphasized that this position reflects a unified stance among the Polish government, president, and all major political parties.
Kosiniak-Kamysz explained that Poland’s involvement, alongside allies such as France, the UK, and other NATO members, would focus on supporting Ukraine’s infrastructure and securing NATO’s eastern border after a ceasefire or peace agreement is achieved.
Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski echoed the sentiment on Wednesday, stating that Kellogg likely “overinterpreted” Poland’s participation in any future NATO operation in Ukraine. Sikorski reiterated on social media that “Poland will NOT send Polish soldiers to Ukraine.”
Kellogg had previously told Fox Business that the US was coordinating with European allies to deploy troops west of the Dnieper River, potentially as part of a post-conflict stabilization effort. He listed the UK, France, Germany, and Poland as contributors to the so-called E4 group.
Despite ongoing discussions among NATO countries about forming a post-war peacekeeping coalition in Ukraine, no agreement has been reached on the force’s specific purpose or structure.
Meanwhile, Russia has categorically opposed any NATO military presence in Ukraine, warning that such a move could escalate into a nuclear confrontation.
