Russian FM denies media reports about US making any proposals regarding future of Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant
Lavrov emphasized that the Zaporozhye plant is managed by the Russian state corporation Rosatom and is being closely monitored by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) personnel. He assured that the plant was being safely operated, despite Ukrainian efforts to attack it. Lavrov reiterated that the facility was in "very good hands," and insisted that its safety requirements were being met, except for the risks posed by Ukrainian attacks, which he claimed could potentially create a nuclear disaster.
Regarding the status of the plant, Lavrov stated that no changes to its situation were being considered and that there had been no mention of it in ongoing negotiations. This statement came after reports from Axios and the Wall Street Journal indicated that US officials had proposed making the area around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant a neutral zone under US administration in talks with Ukraine.
In March, Trump claimed that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky had suggested the US take control of Ukraine's nuclear plants, though Zelensky denied this, clarifying that their conversation was about potential US investment in the Zaporozhye plant.
