Russia Lists Topics for Istanbul Talks with Ukraine
During a conversation with journalists on Tuesday, Ryabkov highlighted that Moscow seeks discussions that reaffirm its claims over territories formerly part of Ukraine, now considered by Russia as integral regions of the country.
Ryabkov emphasized that the central concerns Russia intends to present during the proposed talks mirror longstanding objectives of its ongoing military campaign in Ukraine.
He reiterated that Russia’s focus remains on addressing what it sees as the core causes of the conflict.
This includes the "denazification of the Kiev regime" and the official acknowledgment of the current situation on the ground, particularly Russia's claim to newly absorbed territories.
The territories in question include the regions of Kherson and Zaporozhye, as well as the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.
These areas were formally annexed by Russia in late 2022 following referendums.
Additionally, Crimea was incorporated into Russia shortly after the 2014 Maidan uprising in Kiev, following its own referendum to secede from Ukraine.
Although Ryabkov avoided predicting how the negotiations might unfold, he underlined that Russia is prepared to approach the process “seriously and responsibly.”
His remarks suggest Moscow's continued interest in diplomatic engagement, provided its key conditions are on the table.
