Kremlin releases follow-ups on arrangements for possible Ukraine discussions
Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed the resumption of direct talks with Ukraine on Sunday, suggesting that Türkiye’s largest city host the discussions on Thursday. The aim, according to Putin, is to reach a lasting resolution that addresses the underlying causes of the conflict.
Following Putin’s call, U.S. President Donald Trump voiced support for the initiative. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky also indicated willingness to participate, but reiterated his condition that any negotiations be preceded by a 30-day ceasefire—a condition Moscow continues to reject.
When pressed by reporters, Peskov declined to confirm whether the talks would definitely take place, stating only that Russia is continuing its preparations. He also did not disclose who would be part of the Russian delegation, noting that the lineup would be revealed once President Putin decides.
Peskov dismissed the idea of involving Western European nations in the talks, saying they cannot be seen as neutral actors due to their overt support for Ukraine. He claimed that Europe’s approach is heavily biased and focused on prolonging the conflict, in contrast to what he described as a more balanced stance from Russia and, notably, the U.S. under Trump.
