Indonesia, Cambodia Deepen Economic, Defense Ties
Following their meeting, Maharani, the daughter of former Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri, highlighted a substantial increase in economic partnership, revealing that the trade volume between Indonesia and Cambodia reached approximately one billion U.S. dollars in 2024.
Maharani further stated that both the Indonesian and Cambodian legislative bodies have pledged their support for the policies enacted by their respective governments. She emphasized the necessity of collaboration between the executive and legislative branches, quoting Hun Sen's agreement that, "It's impossible for the executive to work alone without legislative support. Hun Sen also agreed that both the executive and the legislative must work together in implementing public policies."
The Speaker also conveyed Hun Sen's emphasis on the critical need for unity among ASEAN member states in the face of current global challenges. Maharani echoed this sentiment, stating, "We hope for stronger and better ASEAN solidarity to avoid direct impact from global turmoil."
