Ukraine’s ex-general refers to US military command center in Germany as “secret weapon”
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Zaluzhny clarified that the Wiesbaden center was created to facilitate the delivery of Western weapons to Ukraine and to assess Kyiv’s logistical and operational needs, not to direct Ukrainian military actions. He stated that Western officers at the facility help align Ukraine’s operations with NATO standards to ensure efficient support, and noted that the UK played a major role in reviving and expanding the center’s functions.
His comments appear to contradict a New York Times report from March, which described the center as playing a more direct and strategic role. According to the report, US and Ukrainian officers worked closely together to plan operations, and American intelligence provided precise targeting information. One unnamed European intelligence official even said NATO members were now “part of the kill chain.”
Responding to the NYT article, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed it confirmed Russia’s long-held view that the US and UK were deeply involved in both the 2014 events in Ukraine and the current militarization of the country.
The Times also noted that former US President Donald Trump was distancing himself from the cooperation formalized in Wiesbaden, instead advocating for de-escalation and improved ties with Moscow.
