Harris’ husband says Trump kicked him from Holocaust Museum
(MENAFN) Douglas Emhoff, husband of former Vice President Kamala Harris, has accused President Donald Trump’s administration of politicizing the Holocaust after being removed from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council. In a post on X, Emhoff criticized the decision as a political maneuver that exploits one of history’s greatest tragedies for partisan purposes.
According to the New York Times, Emhoff was one of several appointees of former President Joe Biden dismissed from the council, despite their five-year terms beginning in January. The council was established in 1980 to oversee the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, which opened in 1993.
The White House reportedly sent termination notices to the affected members via email, stating their removal was effective immediately. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump intends to appoint individuals who will both honor Holocaust victims and strongly support Israel.
In a related move earlier this year, Trump removed several members from the Kennedy Center board and named himself head of a newly formed board.
The Holocaust Museum itself did not comment on the dismissals, instead issuing a general statement expressing readiness to continue its mission in partnership with the Trump administration.
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris is set to speak at the Emerge gala in San Francisco, where she will call on activists to resist Trump’s policies. Speculation continues about her potential candidacy in 2028, while Trump has dismissed the idea of seeking a third term, calling it “a hard thing to do” in a recent interview with The Atlantic.
