Academy Says Movies Made with AI Can Win Oscars
On Monday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences introduced new regulations, stating that the use of AI and other digital tools would "neither help nor harm the chances of achieving a nomination."
Generative AI, a technology capable of producing text, images, audio, and video from basic text prompts, was involved in the creation of some films that won major industry accolades in March.
Despite this, the Academy emphasized that it would continue to take human involvement into account when determining the winners.
The Academy explained that the updated guidelines regarding eligibility for films made with generative AI tools were suggested by its Science and Technology Council.
Additionally, new rules were unveiled, requiring Academy members to watch all the nominated films in each category to participate in the final voting process, which determines the winners.
