Putin Refuses to Extend Easter Ceasefire in Ukraine
This decision was communicated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who made the announcement to a Russian state news agency.
Putin initially declared a unilateral ceasefire on Saturday, which was set to last for 30 hours during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
He explained that the outcome of this temporary pause would reveal Kyiv's willingness to pursue a peaceful solution to the crisis.
In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would reciprocate Russia’s move, adding that Kyiv would agree to extend the break "if a complete ceasefire truly takes hold."
The ceasefire commenced at 6:00 pm Moscow time and was scheduled to end at midnight on Monday (2100GMT). However, both Moscow and Kyiv have accused one another of breaching the ceasefire agreement.
