DHL Halts U.S. Deliveries Over USD800
(MENAFN) DHL Express is temporarily suspending deliveries to the United States valued at over $800 (£603) due to a "significant increase" in customs processing requirements following the implementation of a new tariff regime.
The global delivery company announced it will halt shipments from companies in all countries destined for American consumers starting Monday, "until further notice."
Business-to-business shipments will continue, the company cautioned "though they may also face delays".
DHL stated that the change stems from a lowered threshold for simplified customs entry. Previously, packages valued up to $2,500 could enter the U.S. with minimal paperwork. However, tighter customs checks implemented this month alongside new tariffs have reduced this threshold to $800.
According to DHL, this adjustment "has caused a surge in formal customs clearances, which we are handling around the clock." While the company is working to “scale up and manage this increase, shipments woth over $800, regardless of origin, may experience multi-day delays.”
Shipments valued under $800, which require minimal customs checks, will continue to be delivered to the U.S.
However, the White House is reportedly planning further action on low-value shipments, specifically those from China and Hong Kong. A loophole allowing such packages to enter the U.S. without incurring duties is set to close on May 2nd.
