US, Russia commence second round of discussions in Istanbul

(MENAFN) The United States and Russia commenced their second round of discussions in Istanbul on Thursday, focusing on normalizing embassy operations between the two nations. A US delegation arrived at the Russian Consulate General in Istanbul at 9:45 a.m. local time (0645 GMT) for the talks.

On Tuesday, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce announced the meeting, stating that delegations would convene in Istanbul for a second round to address efforts to "further stabilize the operations of their bilateral missions." Bruce emphasized that "there are no political or security issues on the agenda," and specifically noted that issues related to Ukraine are "absolutely not on the agenda."

The discussions are being held at the residence of the Russian consul general in Istanbul and are anticipated to last for several hours, though likely shorter than the previous round, which extended beyond six hours.

The Russian delegation is headed by Alexander Darchiev, Russia's Ambassador to the United States, while the US side is represented by Deputy Assistant Secretary Sonata Coulter. Before the meeting commenced, Darchiev noted that progress had already been made on various issues.
