Egypt: Building collapse death toll climbs to nine
A source at the province's emergency monitoring center informed a news agency that "Eight of the victims were females, including a six-month-old baby girl, in addition to an elderly man."
Rescue teams are continuing their efforts to clear the debris at the site, searching for any remaining survivors or additional victims. Authorities have established a security cordon around the collapsed structure, and, as a precautionary measure, four adjacent buildings have been evacuated, according to the same source.
Asyut Governor Hisham Abu Al-Nasr, along with other local officials, is leading the response efforts. The governor has pledged to hold accountable anyone found negligent or in violation of safety regulations as the investigation continues.
