China responds with further tariff hikes on US products
The United States has also retaliated, increasing reciprocal tariffs on Chinese imports to 104%, also effective today.
According to the state-run Global Times, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council stated, "The US escalation of tariffs against China is a mistake on top of a mistake; it seriously infringes upon China’s legitimate rights and interests and gravely undermines the rules‑based multilateral trading system."
In a separate move, Beijing also announced the addition of six US firms to its "unreliable entity list" and placed 12 other US entities on its export control list on Wednesday.
Despite growing concerns and disruptions to global markets, US President Donald Trump has remained steadfast in his refusal to reverse his tariff policies.
