Testimonies Indicate Huge Destruction in Gaza During Israeli Buffer Zone Operations

(MENAFN) Israeli soldiers have given detailed accounts revealing widespread destruction and killings in Gaza as part of efforts to create a buffer zone along the border.

This is based on a recent report from the Israeli organization Breaking the Silence. The report includes testimonies from soldiers involved in enforcing the buffer zone plan.

Although the identities of the soldiers and commanders are not disclosed, their testimonies are considered deeply unsettling.

The report highlights that one of the primary objectives was to establish a “buffer zone” within the Gaza Strip, which in practice meant completely demolishing the area.

The group stated: “One of these missions was to create a ‘buffer zone’ inside the Gaza Strip, which in practice meant razing the area to the ground. ... Through widespread, deliberate destruction, the military laid the groundwork for future Israeli control of the area.”

The soldiers refer to the zone as “the perimeter,” which spans from Gaza’s northern coastline to its southern border with Egypt. This area is entirely within Gaza, beyond Israel’s internationally recognized borders.

Formerly, the buffer zone extended around 300 meters (984 feet) into Gaza. However, the new zone is considerably wider, ranging from 800 meters to 1,500 meters (2,624-4,921 feet).

This expansion impacts approximately 55-58 square kilometers (21-22 square miles) of land, accounting for around 16 percent of Gaza’s total area, including 35 percent of its agricultural land.
