Putin’s economic envoy assures US trip
In a Telegram post, Dmitriev confirmed he has been meeting with representatives from the Trump administration, including Steve Witkoff, who oversees US-Russia relations. He also expressed that the breakdown in US-Russia dialogue under President Joe Biden's administration had left a critical gap, but that efforts to restore communication are underway.
While acknowledging the challenges of rebuilding dialogue, Dmitriev emphasized that every meeting and candid conversation is a step toward better understanding and potential cooperation. He believes that a restored relationship could open new avenues for constructive interaction, especially in economic and investment matters.
Dmitriev’s trip follows last month’s Russia-US talks in Saudi Arabia, where both sides agreed to normalize relations and work toward a diplomatic settlement of the Ukraine conflict. However, Russia has accused Ukraine of violating a ceasefire agreement, particularly with attacks on infrastructure, and insists that any resolution must address NATO expansion and Ukraine's neutrality.
