US airstrikes hit Houthi sites on Yemeni island
(MENAFN) U.S. military forces reportedly carried out several airstrikes early Sunday targeting Houthi positions on Kamaran Island in the Red Sea, as reported by media outlets.
Reports indicated that five distinct airstrikes hit various sites across the island, which lies within Yemen’s Hodeidah province and has been controlled by Houthi forces for over ten years. The report did not include information regarding casualties or the extent of material damage.
The U.S. Department of Defense has not yet released an official statement on the reported strikes.
The airstrikes come hours after the Houthis claimed to have launched a renewed attack on the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier and its supply vessel in the northern Red Sea within the previous 24 hours.
A day earlier, U.S. strikes in the northern Yemeni city of Saada reportedly killed two people and injured nine, targeting a solar energy store and a residential home.
Tensions have escalated between the Houthis and the United States since Washington resumed its military campaign on March 15, pledging what it called “decisive and powerful military action” against Houthi forces.
